Trophy Eyes have dropped their new anthem “Hurt” today. At the forefront of a new movement in rock, “Hurt” reveals a new side of the band as they push the boundaries on their uniquely popular sound, adding even more power to their new wave feel while retaining their signature Trophy Eyes dynamic. The song was premiered worldwide on triple j’s Good Nights yesterday and can be streamed below.

Frontman John Floreani says “Hurt” was the most natural songwriting process he has experienced so far, even if the idea came mid-shower: “I ran from my shower, covered in suds, and in nothing but a towel to record the idea for the chorus into my phone with my mouth. The rest of the song just wrote itself.

“It was truly the first time I could say how I really feel in a song. Being able to portray the emotion, no matter the cost, has been a luxury for me of late and has been nurtured since I wrote my first Trophy Eyes song – holding back less and less with every release. With that, the musical accompaniment came naturally as well, as an almost cheery feel to an otherwise tragic song. I believe that was because of the freedom I felt when writing it. In many cases, this is the song Trophy Eyes has always been trying to write and, with the experimentation of Chemical Miracle opening doors for us in songwriting, we were finally able to express ourselves naturally and honestly.”

“Hurt” heralds in a whole new era for Trophy Eyes and is a taste of what’s to come for Newcastle’s best export. The single follows on from their critically acclaimed, ARIA #8 album Chemical Miracle, which saw the band dominate Australia with back-to-back sold out tours while also conquering the globe. Trophy Eyes are currently seeing out the year on their debut North American headline tour, and is their fourth lap of the continent in the past 12 months. A new Trophy Eyes album will be released in 2018.
