Gracing the stage at the inaugural Melbourne download festival will be the mighty Amon Amarth. Hailing from Sweden, this melodic death metal 5-piece is not one to miss. This band boasts some of the tightest playing in the industry and one of the most exhilarating live shows known to man. Every performance played by Amon Amarth is like an epic journey. A journey you are taken on by the intensity of their music and their lyrical themes, which revolve around history and Viking mythology. It’s indeed a trip through time.

WHO ARE AMON AMARTH?

Johan Hegg − Vocals
Olavi Mikkonen − Guitars
Ted Lundström − Bass
Johan Söderberg − Guitars
Jocke Wallgren – Drums

Formed in 1992 and now with ten studio albums in their discography, Amon Amarth show no signs of slowing down. With the release of their first concept album Jomsviking in 2016 the band have not only taken their signature sound and refined it further, but they have crafted a nuanced story which frontman Johan Hegg has explained briefly:

“The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she’s being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens, and he has to flee — but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can’t let go of the past. He feels that he’s been wronged, and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story.”

Their recent performances have featured songs heavily from this latest conceptual masterpiece, as well as diving as far back as 2004s Fate Of Norns album. As well as some cuts from fan favourite albums Twilight Of The Thunder Gods and With Oden On Our Side.

YOU CAN CATCH AMON AMARTH AT MELBOURNE’S ICONIC FLEMINGTON RACECOURSE ON MARCH 24TH AS PART OF THE INAUGURAL AUSTRALIAN EDITION OF DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL.
