We’re rapidly moving towards the end of 2017, and the Hard Rock Show are celebrating a year of Australian rock and Metal with their End of Year Extravaganza! Hosted at Max Watt’s Melbourne on December 9, this show will feature Power Metal heavyweights Vanishing Point, and rising Prog Metal stars Acolyte, alongside a host of other indomitable acts!
DARCEE FOX (VIC)
Well-loved by the Hard Rock Show, these classic rockers released their debut album Islands in April. The Hard Rock Show’s Andrew Brown gave it 9 / 10, enthusing, “Any fan of rock to hard rock could enjoy this record… plenty of balls, great riffs combined with nice grooves.” Darcee Fox deliver a high-octane performance that summons the rock ‘n’ roll spirit of Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. If you’re looking to capture the feel of where heavy music finds its roots, make sure you catch Darcee Fox.

If you haven’t heard of Espionage, you must have been living under a rock, and not the good kind! The centrepiece of Espionage Bookings, as well as Aussie Metal festivals Legions of Steel, Scorching Steel and Steel Assassins, the Espionage boys Andrew “Frosty” Morris, Denis “Den Den” Sudzuka, Matt “Matto” Carroll and James “Shelvo” Shelverton have made themselves absolutely indispensable to the Melbourne Metal landscape. Not only that, but Sudzuka is one of the hosts for this very gig, and his band plays some mighty fine classic Heavy Metal as well!

SONIC CIRCUS (VIC)
Looking for some more heavy, thundering rock ‘n’ roll? Sonic Circus is another freight train of classic rock sounds. From groovy riffs to smooth, compelling vocals, from rumbling basslines to focused homages to Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Sonic Circus refresh rock ‘n’ roll with both discipline and enthusiasm. There are only a few tracks available so far, but they point to excellent things to come.

SUDDEN STATE (VIC)
Sudden State pour more energy into their live performances than should be legally available. Not only that, they have a sense of humour that will have you laughing your head off as well as banging it. Sudden State blend 80s rock and Metal for a sound that is both fresh and nostalgic, and above all, a hell of a lot of fun. It’s no wonder these boys are a self-styled “party” band! Their debut EP Another Time, Another Place illustrates this in spades, so if you’ve got a road trip coming up this summer, make sure it’s on the playlist.

If you’re looking for the Australian answer to Dream Theater, look no further. Teramaze’s stunningly complex, yet melodic and emotive compositions are Progressive Metal at its finest. Nathan Peachey’s vocals sour above the music with clarity and soul, while Dean Wells and Jonah Weingarten create cinematic moods and weave epic journeys through virtuosic guitars and keys, respectively. The latest release Her Halo explores deeply emotional territory, including the tension between passion and friendship, love triangles, and the pressures and pitfalls of fame. Without a doubt, Teramaze are up to the task of presenting these topics in a compelling and meaningful way.
