DAMNATIONS DAY (VIC)
Hailing from Geelong, one of the biggest Victorian centres outside Melbourne, Damnations Day have all the clout of a capital city band and then some. Vocalist Mark Kennedy is one of the most highly respected on the scene, with a range and style that solidifies him as one of the heavyweights of Australian Power Metal. Damnations Day’s soulful compositions win the hearts and minds of listeners with powerful lyrics, melodic and virtuosic guitars, and the pure combination of fury and fantasy that only Power Metal can deliver. Their sophomore A World Awakens is an almighty release, with every track a hook-laden powerhouse.

MAMMOTH MAMMOTH (VIC)
For lovers of classic stoner Metal, you can’t go past Mammoth Mammoth. With a heritage harking back to Motorhead and Black Sabbath, and even as far back as the classic rock of Cream and Jimi Hendrix, Mammoth Mammoth bring a punk edge to this highly influential genre that gives them a unique angle, while at the same time reaching back to another powerful heavy tradition. Chiefly fuelled by the grooves of Ben Couzens and Pete Bell, one also can’t help but be swept up in the snarling vocals of Mikey Tucker. Fast, aggressive, and guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

NE OBLIVISCARIS (VIC)
Currently one of Australia’s biggest Heavy Metal exports, Ne Obliviscaris have made a huge name for themselves in Europe and the US, with both headlining tours and massive support runs with Cradle of Filth. Their 2017 release Urn was no doubt one of this year’s finest, both expanding on their existing sonic palette and remaining true to their much-loved Progressive, melodic Death Metal roots. With creative mastermind Xenoyr developing much of the band’s visual aesthetic, including video and album art, while co-frontman Tim Charles helms the musical direction alongside the rest of the band, Ne Obliviscaris are truly a creative force to be reckoned with.

With Thrash Metal being as big as it is in Melbourne, it’s truly saying a lot to describe Primitive as one of the biggest up-and-comers in the city’s most saturated Metal genre. Sheer talent and unadulterated raw power set Primitive apart from the crowd, with one of the most energetic live performances your likely to see. Don’t let this band’s youth fool you; they have the nous to show much more experienced bands a thing or two, and will no doubt ascend to great heights in the coming days.
