Take a deep dive back to the late 70’s, when Fraser ruled Australia, disco & MOR ruled the world and a young guitarist named Ed Kuepper bucked all that and was churning out proto-punk classics that would resonate for decades to come, some would be released by his band The Saints, others by the Laughing Clowns and even more would bide their time, aging like fine wine, waiting for their turn to sink into the ears of music lovers across the world.
The horn-driven Red Aces is one of those tracks. Originally mooted as the follow up to The Saints 1977 classic Know Your Product before circumstances lead to a change in direction, Red Aces exists now as the first single from The Aints! And the lead track from the forthcoming debut album The Church of Simultaneous Existence.
To accompany the release The Aints! have assembled a video using historical archival footage of Brisbane, Sydney & London as well as rare iconic performances of the young Kuepper himself. Check the clip that premiered on Noisey this morning below:
Made up from songs, musical elements and bits and prices that Sir Ed wrote from when he began high school in 1969 and started seriously fantasising about being in a band through to the Saints implosion
in 1978 and arranged by The Aints! over 2017-2018, The Church of Simultaneous Existence is an album 40 years in the making.
To celebrate this monumental release The Aints! will hit the road for an extensive national tour performing all your new faves from tracks from The Aints! plus a treasure trove of classics from The Saints (’73 -’78). Tickets on-sale now here.
The Church of Simultaneous Existence will be released September 21st on vinyl, CD and all digital services. The limited 2CD & vinyl releases will also include a bonus album The Church of Simultaneous Instrumentals. Watch the EPK here.
