It is with great excitement that Liberator Music can announce the signing of Jakubi, the latest addition to the label’s stellar roster of artists. To celebrate the announcement, the Melbourne five-piece have released the new single & ultimate party jam ‘Worry Bout A Thing’, produced by Jerome Farah (lead vocalist), Jakubi, and the legendary Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Usher), and mixed by Chris Plata (Anderson Paak, Miguel, Kehlani).
Splitting their time between Australia and LA, the band will return to their hometown of Melbourne to headline a show at Howler on Friday 14 December. Tickets on sale from 9.00am AEST today.
Based on an original production by Jerome and powered by a funky strut and soaring and soulful hook, ‘Worry Bout A Thing’ illuminates the swaggering sonic spark at the heart of the band.
“To me, ‘Worry Bout A Thing’ embodies trying to master the art of not giving a f*ck,” says the frontman. “When things don’t go how they feel they’re meant to go sometimes in life, taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture can help. Also, it’s about using your silliness and sense of humor to get through the tougher times you face.”
“It’s a pretty current theme with what’s going on with social media,” Jesse elaborates. “A lot of people have unreal expectations of who you should be. The truth is you don’t need to worry about what’s going on in anybody else’s life but your own.”
Since the band were discovered via Soundcloud – where they amassed over 6 million streams independently across early singles such as ‘Can’t Afford It All’ (+ version remixed by Kygo) and ‘Couch Potato’ (which has also reached over 1.1million YouTube views and 6.8million Spotify streams to-date) – the group have attracted a fierce allegiance of followers across both Australia and the USA. Known for their wildly-fun live shows, Jakubi have played countless festival slots and sold-out headline shows at The Corner Hotel, Max Watts & multiple Northcote Social Clubs.
There’s always a party happening somewhere, and Jakubi provide the perfect soundtrack. That’s why the quintet – brothers Jerome & Jacob Farah , cousins Jesse Rehaut & Adam Kane , and longtime friend Rob Amoruso – immediately attracted a growing audience with their swinging, slick, and sizzling sonic buffet of pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock and soul since first emerging.
“I believe our live shows are our strongest point,” exclaims Jerome. “That’s where we’re really at home.”
“We’re five individual minds who come from different backgrounds, but all want the same outcome,” says Jesse. “It’s never one style or genre; it’s just, ‘Let’s make the songs as good as we can make them.’”
Their unparalleled chemistry stems directly from a family bond. “It’s such a big part of who we are,” comments Adam. “That connection helped smooth the process of touring and making a record halfway around the world from our homes. Being a family keeps us real.”
All respected musicians in their own right, members of Jakubi have also collaborated with the likes of local acts Baker Boy, Kian (triple j unearthed high winner) and The Rubens.
‘Worry Bout A Thing’ follows previous EPs Holiday (2015) and 61 Barkly (2016) and will appear on the band’s forthcoming full length-debut, marking an exciting new chapter for Jakubi.
