Melbourne melodic hardcore/punk band Spectral Fires are gearing up to release their third effort, a four-track EP called ‘Turn Toward the Sun’.
Recorded and produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Title Fight, Counterparts, Citizen) and mixed and mastered by Christopher Vernon (Thornhill, Belle Haven, Better Half, Stuck Out), ‘Turn Toward the Sun’ has seen Spectral Fires refine their craft and take their unique song writing abilities to a new level.
A breath of fresh air to Australia’s punk and hardcore scene, Spectral Fires have mastered sweeping,
sing-along choruses, dynamic punk grooves and infectious guitar melodies, combining their hardcore
roots and punk rock sensibilities to shape a sound that is distinctively their own.
Vocal performances are a stand-out on the release with guitarist Harry Pratt not afraid to showcase
his expansive range and vocalist Jack Jeffree seamlessly shifting between soft, delicate cleans and a
passionate, melodic yell that has become a trademark of Spectral Fires’ sound.
Singer Harry Pratt says that “This new record has been a long time coming for us and we are just about bursting with excitement to finally get new Spectral Fires music out there. Turn Toward The Sun is undoubtedly our most complete work to date, and the best representation of us and music we want to create – we can’t wait for people to hear and hopefully enjoy it, and to get out on tour to play these tracks live!”
‘Turn Toward the Sun’ is accompanied by a music video for lead single Just a Mirage (filmed by Cian
Marangos) – an upbeat, nostalgia-fuelled track with driving riffs and an unforgettable chorus hook. Noted for their original take on melodic hardcore and high-energy live shows, over the last 5 years Spectral Fires have carved themselves a spot among some of the most respected bands in their scene. Having shared the stage with the likes of Being As An Ocean (US), Knocked Loose (US), Trophy Eyes, Dream On Dreamer, Ocean Grove, Antagonist AD, Void of Vision, Columbus and many more, Spectral Fires’ raw emotion, unique creativity and infectious live energy has earned them a dedicated following.
2016’s independently released ‘Wayfarer’ has amassed tens of thousands of plays on Spotify and enjoyed airtime across triple j as well as national distribution through JB Hi-Fi. Lead single New Resolve reached #3 on the Triple J Unearthed punk charts while the video for follow up single Left Behind has over 30,000 views on YouTube and aired on both Rage and MTV.
Spectral Fires’ new single ‘Just a Mirage’ will be in stores and streaming outlets from Friday November 2, as will pre-orders for their forthcoming EP, ‘Turn Toward The Sun’.
