The Goo Goo Dolls brought their 20th anniversary “Dizzy Up the Girl” tour to Seattle on Sunday night. “Dizzy Up the Girl” has sold over five million copies and is recognized as the album that launched the Goo Goo Dolls into the main stream. On this night they covered the entire album. It is amazing how many huge hit songs came from this release. The album featured two number one singles with Iris and Slide and three other big hits with Dizzy, Black Balloon and Broadway.

Founding members Johnny Rzeznik (guitar, vocals) and Robby Takac (bass, vocals) still sound great live and put on one heck of a show. The Paramount was sold out and the crowd was singing along with all the hit songs. It was really a great atmosphere for a show and the band seemed to be having the time of their lives. Add in a really good light show and a twenty-five song set list and the fans were in for quite a treat. Their was a noticeable buzz in the air as the crowd waited for the show to start.

After the Goo Goo Dolls finished “Dizzy Up the Girl“, the hits just kept coming. Some of the other great songs were Name, Can’t Let it Go, Two Days in February, Not Broken and Big Machine. Rzeznik did a great job all night interacting with the crowd and telling stories about some of the songs. He was very easy going and pretty funny as well. He also lead the crowd in singing some of the huge hits. Everyone at the show was eating it up. The whole spectacle was quite a sight to see. They have definitely stood the test of time and sounded great all night.

I had never seen the Goo Goo Dolls live, and the show definitely left a lasting impression on me. Everything they did seemed so effortless, but was perfect. Rzeznik‘s voice was spectacular all night long. I know the Goo Goo Dolls will be going out this summer on a co-headlining tour with Train and they are not to be missed. The years have been good to the Goo Goo Dolls and it really showed in how much fun they were having on stage. I look forward to seeing them again the summer!
