2018 saw The Faction Radio’s very first Hardest 100 Countdown, which celebrated and polled 50 years of Heavy Metal since 1968’s release of Black Sabbath‘s Black Sabbath album. In a controversial result out of a total vote count of over 50,000, Architects‘ Doomsday took out the Number 1 spot, followed by Metallica‘s Master of Puppets, Parkway Drive‘s Carrion, Metallica‘s One and Rage Against The Machine‘s Killin’ In the Name.

Now, in 2019, The Faction will be counting down the best heavy songs of 2018, as voted by heavy music fans. Voting is open now at The Music. Eligible songs were released as singles or as part of albums released between January 1 2018 and December 31 2018. 

The Faction has once again partnered with The Music to power the voting system and the countdown as always, is supported by a who’s who of heavy music industry including Unify Gathering, Download Festival,24Hundred, Wall of Sound, Oztix, QMusic, Crowbar andiHeartRadio

2019’s live countdown will take place on Saturday March 2nd from midday AEDT (11am AEST), one week out from the annual Download Festival. The live countdown will be able to be streamed on The Faction radio, available through the exclusive app (iOS and Android), The Faction website and iHeartRadio. It means that there are only THREE weeks to get your votes in!

There will also be 2 official countdown parties that punters in Sydney and Brisbane can attend – both hosted by the home of Heavy in Australia – CrowbarFree to attend for 18+ punters, the heavy music communities can rally around the countdown and celebrate together from Midday at both events/timezones.

Voters will go into the draw to win a bunch of heavy music prizes, including 1 Double Pass to Download Festival Melbourne 2019 and 1 Double Pass to Download Festival Sydney, 5 x $50 24Hundred Vouchers, A Double Pass to Bigsound Festival live shows in 2018, a $250 OztixVoucher and The Faction merch packs. Winners will be announced on Saturday March 2 when the live countdown ends! The live broadcast will kick off from 11am AEDT that day. 

With a playlist sporting over 50% Australian music and over 25% female or non-binary fronted acts, The Faction‘s inclusive ethos is expected to create a list celebrating amazing heavy music from 2018 as well as the future of our genre.
