High On Fire have won the Grammy for best metal performance for ‘Electric Messiah’.
The band were at the pre-telecast event, dubbed the ‘premiere ceremony’, at Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, to accept the award.
The ‘official’ 61st Grammy Awards ceremony will be telecast from the nearby Staples Center.
High On Fire beat out four other nominees – Between The Buried And Me, Deafheavan, Trivium, and Underoath.
Bands of a heavy nature will also not be performing.
According to the Recording Academy, ‘The Grammy Award is voted on by the Recording Academy’s voting membership, which is comprised of music creators, including artists, producers, songwriters, and engineers… As the only peer-recognised music award, the Grammy is the music industry’s highest honour.’
